Efficiency Bounds in Concentrated Solar Thermal Systems

An analysis of thermodynamic limits in parabolic trough and heliostat field configurations, with proposed improvements to heat exchanger staging. We derive revised Carnot-equivalent bounds accounting for optical concentration losses and present a two-stage heat exchanger topology that recovers 4.2% additional thermal efficiency in simulation.

Signal Coherence in Long-Baseline Cosmological Arrays

Examining phase coherence degradation across distributed sensor arrays used in radio telescope networks, and mitigation strategies for atmospheric interference. Phase coherence degrades predictably with baseline length and observing frequency, and we present a real-time correction algorithm that restores coherence to within 2° RMS across baselines up to 500 km.

Regenerative Braking Energy Recovery in Hybrid Platforms

Quantifying recoverable kinetic energy in combined gas-electric drivetrains under real-world urban driving cycles, with implications for battery sizing. Under standardized urban driving cycles, 18–24% of total kinetic energy is recoverable via regenerative braking, with the recoverable fraction highly sensitive to battery state-of-charge management strategy.

Harmonic Distortion Effects on Distribution Transformer Losses

Modern grid loads introduce significant harmonic content that invalidates traditional transformer loss calculations. This paper presents a frequency-domain loss model validated against laboratory measurements on a 25 kVA distribution transformer.
